The Perfect Morning Routine
I believe the perfect morning routine can set our mood for the rest of the day. If we want to be in a good mood, feel great and be polite to others, then we should think if our start of the day is missing something that could be actually very beneficial for us. I think we all have the same experience. In the morning we feel tired and we would like to just stay in bed. We are without energy and we need a cup of coffee/tea to start our day. We put on some clothes very fast and we run. But we can do better!
Many of us are busy and we have a lot of responsibilities so we feel like we don’t have the time to add something else. But what if we just change a few little things in our routine every day? What if the little change will have a huge impact on our day and our life in the long term?
How to set a morning routine?
It took me years to develop my morning routine. As it is important to start our day in a good way it is also important to finish our day in the evening with our bedtime routine. The first important thing is to sleep between 7 and 9 hours per night.
I set my morning routine by trying and trying again till it clicked. This is a not-so-secret recipe but I feel like we sometimes need to hear something we already know, so we can realise it and do it. First of all, start small. If you are used to sleeping till 7-8 a.m. you can’t immediately change it and wake up at 5 a.m. But you should think about the perfect time for you, so you have enough time to do more things. Tips from many coaches and psychologists are to meditate, write a journal, exercise (can be yoga), eat a healthy breakfast, drink enough water, take a cold shower, make your bed, do your skincare routine, etc. It is great to know what options we have and from what we can choose. I want to share with you my morning routine that is perfect for me and could inspire you.
My Morning Routine
- Drink water (with lemon)
My mum taught me to drink boiled water, with or without lemon, every morning. When I wake up I go to prepare the hot water and while I do other things the water achieves the perfect temperature. This tip is also from Ayurveda and I have found it really great for my health for many years.
This is the hardest part for me. But I like to watch videos on my computer and do the same exercise. Sometimes I just play music or listen to a podcast, but I try to do exercises every day or to walk at least ten thousand steps during the day.
I try to have a cold shower in the morning. And if I don’t feel like having a cold shower I take a warm one but at least I brush my body. Skin brushing is very beneficial, it is great for blood circulation, digestion and for detoxification.
- Beauty rituals
The most interesting part for me. I love to take care of my skin, so I clean my skin every morning with cold water and I apply serums, hydrating cream + SPF. If I have time I love to apply masks or eye patches.
In the morning I try to eat only healthy foods and I drink my water + juice or smoothie. I know that I usually eat after 45-60 minutes after I wake up and it works really well for me. Usually, I have all my other routines done before breakfast.
- Planning the day or week
Sometimes I plan during my breakfast and sometimes after but I always love to set goals for my day and I like to see what I have to do. I use a calendar on my computer or classic agenda.
I love to clean. Maybe too much but I like to make my bed and clean the floor or dust. I do this every morning but it takes me only 10-15minutes.
This is the end of the morning routine but another interesting part. It is good to remind ourselves why we study or work so we can keep our motivation.
I am so used to my rituals every morning that I feel bad when I don’t do them. I have read many articles and many studies about the perfect morning routine but I think that it is important to just choose something. We can’t do everything and the key is to add more things into our routine slowly. The morning routine can help us to be happier, more productive and healthier.
